It was really nice to congratulate Lennie and touching the just won ECMA. Good times.
The Circle was way better than expected. I'm always a little sceptical when it comes to female voices, but I enjoyed them all. Amelia Curran, Catherine MacLellan, Coco Love Alcorn and Melanie Morgan.
The best performance for me was "Davey Jones" by Gordie Sampson --- I was really hoping to hear that live one day. Brilliant!!!
In the intermission I went backstage to meet Wendy Bergfeldt. That was exciting … and pretty busy … good to meet Wendy in person!
After the circle we went to the Govenor's for a meal - lots of familiar faces there.
Then back to the hotel … getting ready for the gala show.
Well, what should I say to the Gala show? I liked the introduction of PEI for 2011 - very fresh and funny. I didn't like the way the awards were spread … actually they weren't spread at all. "Through and through and through". Joel Plaskett won most of the important awards and I think that is boring. Especially as I can't really get, why people think he is better than others. Most likely as I think he sounds pretty European - mainstream … he should send his material to German radio stations, I'm sure he'd be a big hit. But that's not the reason I like Canadian East Coast music. Anyway, I'm not giving away the awards, and it's just a very personal feeling!!!
through and through and through … lol.
The performances between the acts were great and although the show was pretty long I couldn't understand why lots of people left before the show was finished.
Congrats to all the Beaton's in the house and to Lennie Gallant!
We found out that the mother of Gordie was playing piano on the first floor, what was a nice place for a chat with some friends.
We went down for Colin Grant and Band, which was one of my favourite performances of the weekend. Brilliant!
After that we went to the Delta to the Crown and Moose. A nice chat with friends, saying goodbye to Kelly and ECMA 2010 was history.
5am at the hotel.
And not late enough for not putting out Gary's guitar :o))
