March 18th --- Songwriters Circle at the Casino

The day started slowly and the weather was still nice, I can't believe that there wasn't any rain yet. Ok some snow, but most of the last three weeks were sunny. And now it's warm, too. We went to Halifax via MacDonald bridge, it's our favourite route now. We picked up our tickets at the Casino and as they gave me a parking ticket for free, we just left our car at the Casino parking for the rest of the day. So we went via pedway to the Fife and Drum for a snack. On the way back to the Casino we met Bruce on a pedway ... but ... he didn't seem to be very "talkative" to me. Well. Gabi wanted to spend at least 5 dollars at the Casino and so we started playing at a Bamboo machine ... no real plan what to do, but fun. I actually feared that we'd miss the Songwriters Circle as the game took more time than I thought. The money was gone early enough, so we went to the Schooner Showroom and took seats. We knew that we'd only see the back of Bruce and there was only one chair which we could see good ... the only one without guitar. Bruce came first, played his song "I kinda like what I do". Then the three others were following, Dave Carroll carrying his guitar - great. Asif Illyas from MIR started and I was really amazed by his voice and songs. Really good.

The next in the circle was Dave and yes he played the song "The Place That I Call Home" for me, even with mentioning that he is sending that out to me. Thanks Dave, that was the point for some tears ... just love that song! Marc Jordan was the next ... he wrote lots of songs for Rod Stewart and also for Bonnie Raitt.
He mostly performed songs he wrote for Rod Stewart including one of the original versions, before he had to change the lyrics for Rod. And he also played Rhythm of My Heart. Bruce followed with "The Songsmith" what was amazing of course ... an absolutely amazing version of it ... just with guitar. In addition he played "Pants" and "Walk This Road" ... Dave played the song "Everyday Hero" about the 911 calls, "Now" from Perfect Blue, and "United Breaks Guitars" as Bruce insisted of playing it, as he wanted to sing along. They closed the show together with "Will The Circle Be Unbroken ..." -- btw the sound was great!!! After the show we went over to Dave's parents --- very nice to meet them and it was great to have the possibility to thank Dave in person and wishing him a Happy Birthday, too. :o)))

Then we went via pedway downtown to the Pogue Fado. Jimmie Inch was supposed to play there. He played  together with BENT (Jerry MacPhee) ... the audience was pretty young - all under 20 I'd say. I felt pretty old there (not to speak about Gabi ... lol) and after a drink and watching these drunk young people (they had March break and were in for extensive partying) jumping around we left. Music was good, though. Walking back to the car and driving home. A great evening!!!
